Vivabeat
Vivabeat was a US techno pop band whose sharp-edged, art-driven sound emerged as a hybrid of the Los Angeles and Boston music scenes in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Formed in LA at the intersection of glam, funk, and post-punk, the band is known for its rhythmically precise, lyrically enticing music shaped by the era’s urgency and experimentation.
Vivabeat was discovered by Peter Gabriel and became the first American band on the British label Charisma Records. Their album "Party in the War Zone" featured the international dance hit “Man From China.” A subsequent EP, produced by Earle Mankey included “The House Is Burning,” which appeared in Brian De Palma’s Body Double and won an MTV Award.
After touring with the B-52s, Depeche Mode, Gang of Four, and others, the band wound down in 1986. Vivabeat’s catalog was later remastered and reissued by Rubellan Remasters and is now available through Liberation Hall along with a live album, "Vivabeat Live 1980-1984."
