S9E443 - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) with Robbie Gennet

What more can be said about the much maligned 1978 musical film 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' that hasn't been said already (11% on Rotten Tomatoes)? But this week's guest, multi-instrumentalist, artist and songwriter Robbie Gennet, contends that the movie - and especially its accompanying soundtrack - deserves a second look. Featuring the Bee Gees, Peter Frampton, and a slew of guest artists covering Beatles songs (AND produced by none other than George Martin!), as well as a murderer's row of side men including  Max Middleton, Wilbur Bascomb and Bernard Purdie, it's an eclectic, at times bizarre collection of songs you've known for all these years. We hope you will enjoy the show.

Songs discussed in this episode: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - Bee Gees with Paul Nicholas; Vacillate, Don't Wait (Live, 2025) - Robbie Gennet; I've Gotta Get A Message To You (Live at The Forum, 1976), Too Much Heaven - Bee Gees; I'm In You, Show Me The Way (Live) - Peter Frampton; Cause We've Ended As Lovers, Head For Backstage Pass - Jeff Beck; Fire and Brimstone - Hummingbird; Here Comes The Sun - Sandy Farina; Theme song from 'Which Way Is Up' - Stargard; Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds - Dianne Steinberg with Stargard; Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds - Elton John; I Want You (She's So Heavy) - Bee Gees with Donald Pleasence; Good Morning Good Morning - Bee Gees with Peter Frampton; Oh! Darling - Dana Fuchs; Maxwell's Silver Hammer - Steve Martin; Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise) - Bee Gees with Peter Frampton; Got To Get You Into My Life - Earth, Wind & Fire; Night Fever - Bee Gees; I Want You (She's So Heavy) - Eddie Hazel; Because - Bee Gees with Alice Cooper; Come Together - Aerosmith; A Day In The Life - Bee Gees; Get Back - Billy Preston; Sgt. Robbie Gennet is a multi-instrumentalist artist and songwriter from Los Angeles, CA. He's written and released his own music over the years, culminating in a most ambitious project releasing ten original albums in 2025 with accompanying live full band performances. His award-winning videos for THE CAMERA’S ON and COME DOWN can be seen on YouTube. From his imaginative piano explorations to rock and funk, jazz and pop, Robbie Gennet is a musical chameleon who absolutely defies categorization.

Robbie’s creativity has been honed on many instruments across many stages and studios, beginning in his native Florida and continuing in California, where he’s spent most of his adult life. Once Robbie made the move to Los Angeles, he began quickly making a name for himself as a sought-after session and touring musician. Though known primarily as a pianist, he is also an accomplished guitarist and bassist, playing and touring with luminaries such as Mike McCready (Pearl Jam), Robby Krieger (The Doors), Wayne Kramer (MC5), Stefan Lessard (Dave Matthews Band), Paul Barrere and Kenny Gradney (Little Feet), Phil Chen (Jeff Beck, Rod Stewart) and more. He played keys and sang harmony vocals for the late Lisa Marie Presley, including performing inside Graceland, a rare treat. Other impressive musical stints include working in studio and onstage with artists such as Nick Lachey, Eric Dover (Jellyfish, Slash’s Snakepit, Sextus), Dada, Everclear, Alan Parsons, Marc Ford (Black Crowes), Saigon Kick and 7 Mary 3.
