Associates – Fourth Drawer Down Returning guest, composer/producer/singer Tom Smith (To Live and Shave In L.A., Peach of Immortality) brings in a band that managed to escape both Rob & Barry’s radar, the darkly expansive and criminally overlooked (at least in the US) Scottish post-punk-pop band Associates. This amazing collection of singles released in 1980/81 defies categorization – but Berlin-era Bowie and mid-70s Roxy Music is a fair comparison. Main men Billy Mackenzie and Alan Rankine combine fiercely intelligent lyrics and cinematic soundscapes to create desolately beautiful tales of dreams, nightmares and urban paranoia.

Tom Smith Profile Photo

Founder of the long-running noise collective "To Live And Shave In L.A." (as well as Washington, DC groups "Peach of Immortality" and "Pussy Galore"), avant-garde composer, producer and performer Tom Smith sadly passed Jan 20th, 2022 in Hannover, Germany. His particular brand of genre-less chaos - as well as his biting sense of humor and passion for great art/music - will be missed.
